"QeC-ERAN: Twenty Years of Urban Experience – Reflections and Perspectives" - 24/26 June 2009 - Brussels / Belgium
QeC-ERAN, a network of cities, regions, NGOs and research organizations that has grown up with EU urban policy, is celebrating its 20th anniversary.  The organization came into existence with the support of the former DGXXVI, now DG Regional Policy, in order to help develop and implement some of the first Urban Pilot Projects.  The network was instrumental in securing the URBAN programme.  Its members are connected by a number of features but a key ‘red thread’ in the work of the network has been the URBAN programme as well as the territorial exchange programmes such as INTERREG and URBACT. The year 2009 also marks 20 Years for the Brussels Regional Capital. Urban development in Brussels has ‘shadowed’ the evolution of EU Policy.  A series of EU co-financed interventions have taken place alongside broader urban and community development programmes. As such, Brussels provides a unique ‘living laboratory’ for reviewing the past twenty years and also looking ahead to the next ten years.
