Organisée par la Présidence française du Conseil de l'Union européenne, en partenariat avec la Commission européenne et le Parlement européen. Pour traiter avec pertinence ce sujet, ce colloque sera précédé par une large consultation via un forum internet. Ce forum est ouvert entre le 15 avril 2008 et le 30 mai 2008. La consultation débouchera sur l’élaboration d’un document de synthèse et de posters qui seront présentés lors de la conférence du 3 juillet prochain à Bruxelles.

Conférence "Internet du Futur, Internet des Objets" - 6-7 octobre 2008 - Nice
La conférence de la Présidence Française de l’Union Européenne sur l’Internet du Futur permettra de créer les bases technologiques, économiques et politiques nécessaires au développement d’un marché européen des services sur les mobiles ainsi que des services aux usagers de l’Internet des objets. L’Europe dispose en effet d’atouts décisifs pour devenir l’une des régions clés de l’Internet de demain, en particulier grâce à l’un des plus importants marchés unifiés des communications mobiles et un patrimoine scientifique et culturel unique au monde. L’objectif de cette conférence sera ainsi de stimuler les travaux de R&D et la création d’initiatives européennes dans le domaine des services à valeur ajoutée sur Internet. Enfin, les questions liées à la gouvernance de l’Internet du Futur seront aussi abordées ainsi que la protection des libertés afin d’établir un cadre de confiance propice au développement de ces innovations en Europe.

Final event of the Project ERLAIM "European Regional and Local Authoriites for the Integration of Migrants" - 15 July 2008 - Brussels
The conference has two key aims:
1) To highlight the main results of the project:  a) A comparative analysis of several legal frameworks for the integration of migrants (the responsibilities and competences of local, regional and national actors involved in the decision-making process in Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Spain and United Kingdom); b) The collection of regional/local integration strategies and projects focusing on the themes of citizenship, participation and political rights, intercultural communication and cultural mediation, minors, women and the gender perspective and public/private partnerships providing services to immigrants.
2) To improve the information flow from the European level down to regional/local policy makers and practitioners on EU policy developments on migration. Conference "Regional Policy : Benefits from Satellite Information and Services" – 11 September 2008 - Brussels
This conference will present the mid-term findings of Eurisy’s programme for European Local and Regional Authorities. The objective of this 5-year programme is to help Local and Regional Authorities implement and profit from the benefits of satellite information and services for the sustainable development of European regions and cities. The conference will present feedback from Local and Regional Authorities on their experiences in using these innovative tools. It will introduce their
perspective on what role European institutions should play in facilitating the access of regions and cities to these innovative tools, via financing mechanisms and regulations that they are in a position to set up. European decision makers, policy experts and space programme administrators will have an opportunity to engage in a dialogue with representatives from Local and Regional Authorities. The discussion will embrace the possibilities for European regions and cities to be further supported in their appropriation of the benefits from satellite information and services. The half day conference programme will include examples of best practices in regions.
It will close with a round table discussion, followed by a press conference.

BYPAD final conference : "Quality standard for cycling policy in European cities and regions" - 18-19 September 2008  - Tartu / Estonia
The conference will present the results and experiences of using the BYPAD-tool during the past 9 years. BYPAD (Bicycle policy audit) is an instrument for the evaluation of local and regional cycling policy and improvement of its quality. BYPAD has been developed, applied and continuously improved since 1999, with support from the European Commission. Meanwhile more than 100 cities and regions in 20 European countries are evaluating and improving their cycling policy, supervised by 34 certified auditors from these countries.

1st International Research Workshop  : "The Internet of Things and Services" - 18-19 September 2008 - Valbonne Sophia Antipolis
The Internet of Things and Services International Research Workshop is designed for the exchange of insight between leading researchers and experts in the whole area of Semantic Interoperability, Ambient Intelligence, Sensor Networking, and generally the Internet of People, Things and Services. The concept of the “Internet of Things and Services” is gaining momentum in the emergent academic, industrial and market developments. Many key enabling technologies are already available such as middleware and service-oriented architectures, virtualisation, RFID, sensor networking. Based on the seamless integration of embedded networked devices and services, the Internet of Things and Services involves also automatic identification of things and services, communication, service selection & composition, resolution and invocation of services. OPEN DAYS 2008 - 6/9 October 2008 - Brussels
217 regions and cities from 32 countries have signed up as partners for the OPEN DAYS 2008 European Week of Regions and Cities, the biggest annual gathering of EU and regional policy-makers, experts and representatives of banking, business and civil society groups operator in the regional policy sector. OPEN DAYS are organised by the Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the European Commission's Regional Policy Directorate General and also involve more than 200 linked events throughout October in the Member States. 4000 people are expected to visit the Investors Café. It acts as a unique forum for communication and meeting place between private and public companies and regions and cities, enabling them to discover the rich diversity and economic attractiveness of European regions/cities and to identify investment and job creation opportunities. 2nd European Conference on Games Based Learning - 16-17 October 2008 - Barcelona / Spain
The European Conference on Games-Based Learning (ECCBL 2008) invites researchers, academics and professionals from games and education to come together to listen, discuss and present their research, points of views and knowledge. This is the 2nd year of the conference and it will be hosted by The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona. The city is renowned as one of the most important cultural and administrative centres in Spain. ICT BIO 2008 and Cancer Modelling workshop - 23-24 October 2008 - Brussels

Le forum vise à permettre l'examen des principaux facteurs techniques à prendre en compte pour l'établissement de statistiques harmonisées du tourisme propres à renforcer la coopération entre les pouvoirs publics, le secteur privé, les chercheurs, les universitaires, les pays Membres et non membres de l'OCDE et de l'UE, et les organisations internationales.
Les objectifs sont les suivants : - Réunir une large participation d'experts, de chercheurs et d'universitaires des pays Membres de l'UE, de l'OCDE et de certains pays non membres, représentatifs de l'ensemble des branches d'activité du tourisme. -
Présenter et examiner des études de cas sélectionnés portant sur la mise en œuvre de méthodes statistiques, de définitions et de classifications ainsi que sur la mise au point de nouveaux outils statistiques. - Partager des idées, des expériences et des concepts en vue d'élaborer des statistiques harmonisées du tourisme et formuler des propositions concrètes tendant à améliorer la définition du tourisme et la mesure de son poids dans l'économie. - Repérer d'autres sources d'information et encourager l'utilisation des nouvelles technologies de l'information de manière à réduire le travail demandé aux entreprises du secteur du tourisme et à améliorer la diffusion des statistiques à l'ensemble des partenaires intéressés. - Élaborer des systèmes intégrés de statistiques du tourisme et des indicateurs socio-économiques propres à donner une vue d'ensemble des branches d'activité du tourisme, en particulier aux responsables publics, et à permettre d'établir des liens avec le reste de l'économie.

2008 Polis Conference - 25-26 November 2008 - Barcelona / Spain
The conference will be divided into five interlinking parts. High-level speakers from the local, national and EU level will outline the broader policy framework. Local politicians from across Europe will debate in roundtables the merits and challenges of engaging key stakeholders in the definition of a common agenda for mobility.The parallel sessions will provide an opportunity to learn about the innovative solutions implemented in cities and regions and participants will be able to see some of these solutions during the technical visits and at the exhibition that will run throughout the conference.
The conference parallel sessions will essentially be organised around the four broad themes of the Polis working groups: environment & health; safety and security; traffic efficiency & mobility; and, the economic & social dimension of transport. The sessions will also provide an opportunity for Polis members to report back on the key issues emerging from the working groups.
